Substitute liquid food colouring for food colouring paste?

I am making Company's Coming Paintbox Cookies from the ';Cookie Jar Classics'; book and it calls for using paste food colouring to be kneaded into the cookie dough. How can I use liquid food colouring instead? Can I put the food colouring directly onto the dough or do I have to put it in earlier?Substitute liquid food colouring for food colouring paste?
Liquid food coloring is fine - you can just add it to the dough as you would the paste.

Be aware that liquid food coloring isn't as brightly colored, and may require more to achieve the desired colors. Also, since it's a liquid, it will cause the dough to become slightly stickier. If this becomes a problem, knead in a teeny-tiny bit of extra flour.Substitute liquid food colouring for food colouring paste?
mix colors with the frosting

not cookie dough.
