Its nothing but mercury buddy.


I dont know about those theoretical explation of it being alcohol or water but I can tell you better as I've broken a number of thermometers myself.


they take the form of sphere when left exposed due to surface tension. they also appear as shiny mirror coated glass balls.I know there should not remain any odour but in fact there is a gasoline like odour as you have mentioned.( Probably due to some impurities)


Mercury is very toxic, it is even harmful when comes in contact with skin %26amp; may also cause some metallic poisoning disease( salts of mercury caused Minamata epidemic in Japan)

Despite what people above me said, it i not mercury. Mercury is silver in color and has no appreciale odor, it can not be dyed either.





The coloured liquids are alcohols that rely on their changes in density to float, as the liquids warm they increase in volume decreasing in density. The best way to get rid of the odor is to just let the area air out, unless it is carpeted then spray some febreeze onto the area.
Its mercury, a toxic chemical substance used to measure temperature in thermometer. Its mixed with colour for clear visibility since mercury itself is colourless.
Could be colored water or mercury, depending on when the thermometer was made. To be on the safe side, wear some rubber gloves and disinfect whatever it spilled on (or just throw away, depending on what it is)

It sounds like you are describing a Galileo thermometer. Each floating ball has a tag hanging from it with the temperature. If it is broken, the only thing I can think of doing, is buy a new one.
it is water. with some form of dye. ( most likely)


Clean the area with mild soap and water. Spray it with febreeze. :)
It is probably mercury. It is a heavy metal that happens to be in a liquid stae at room temperature.
