I've been colour matched to MAC nw30 for summer and nw25 for winter (or maybe the other way around) and I'm a bit confused. I want a completely natural no makeup look. How can I find the right colour foundation to use?
Sorry, but the color of your wrist does NOT always match your face, especially the inside of your wrist. Even your neck isn't always the same shade as your face.
Match your neck, so the makeup on your face will blend into it and look much more natural.
If you've been color matched at MAC or any other department store brand, make sure once the makeup has been applied, to step outside and look at it in natural light. Department store lighting is notoriously unnatural and harsh. And makeup tends to look very different in the natural light that is outside.
That said, most people have a yellow undertone in their skin. But MAC tends to be slightly peachy. If you're more on the peachy side, MAC is great.
If not, try youngblood mineral foundation, which has some yellow based shades, and shu uemura, which also has several yellow based colors.
In general, you might want to try mineral foundations for a more natural look if that's what you like.
Best,
GGHow can I find the right colour foundation to use?
Go to L.S. Ayres at the cosmetics department for a makeover. It is free and they will show you what you need.
i'd try tru color (i think that's the name!)
Again, you can get color matched at almost any mall for foundation but if you want to do it yourself, which can sometimes work almost better, you should just try out a few foundations at any place that lets you sample their cosmetics. Apply the foundation to the inside of your wrist first (this is the closest to your face in skin color) and then walk outside and view the different foundations on your wrist in sunlight. Artificial light can distort the color and result in you buying an orange foundation. Then apply the foundation that matches best to your face and look at it in a mirror, both inside and outside. Try asking the salespeople if they think it matches or even bring a friend with you, one that will be completely honest. Good luck!
My mom is a cosmetologist and she has always taught me to rub the color on my wrist to see if it matches. You should also go as close to your skin color as possible. You shouldn't go darker though, if you absolutely cant find your color, go with a slightly lighter color. Still, try to be as close as possible. This will keep you from getting the ';make-up mask';.
You could just test different ones.
You could try Mary Kay.
Most consultants offer free skin care consultations and glamour makeovers, you can find a consultant by simply going to www.marykay.com and entering your zip code for a consultant near you! I hope this helps, if i can be of furthur assisstance please feel free to contact me at jennrego@marykay.com.
You should go to the mall and have them to do your make up for u. They can match it real well with you face and after they apply the makeup u can purchase it.
I agree you should use your wrists. The color to your wrists is just like the color to your face.
Going to the mall can be expensive sometimes but worth it. Something I do when I can't exactly afford to pay for that is to mix foundations. If you have something thats a little to light or a little to dark you can add a drop of foundation thats a shade darker and mix it.
Also something I do, for a smoother less 'caked on' look I take a bit of lotion and mix it in with the foundation. It makes it less heavy so my face feels less gross, it helps to stay on longer and goes on way smoother.
Something else, if you are white, there are generally two types of undertones white people have. Pinkish and Yellowish. Take a look at your hands and the palms of your hands, it should be more pink or more yellow. Foundations also can be more yellow or a bit warmer for pink skin. Even though you've found one that might match your skin color, make sure it also compliments your undertones.
be a girl and try on every color you have but dont forget to ask your friends how it looks.
