im writing an experiment on it about white coffee and dark coffee white coffee is black coffee with milk and dark coffee is black coffee only. And the result showed that dark colour things cool faster but y?? i searched it and it right that dark colour coffee or liquid does cool faster than light couloured things but why???????????????How come dark liquids cool faster than lighter colour?? HELP really IMPORTANT?
a dark material and a light colored material heated to the same temperature, the dark one will cool faster as it radiates the heat better, in this case the milk in white Coffee cools it down a bit, making the black Coffee hotter so the black Coffee will usually always cool down first. the second one happens as there is a greater difference in temperature between the very hot black coffee and the air, than there is between the slightly cooler white coffee and the air.How come dark liquids cool faster than lighter colour?? It has nothing to do with color.
both liquids cool by evaporation off the top surface primarily, and slightly due to radiation and convection.
the coffee with the creamer has oils which create a slight film over the top surface of the cup, which interfers with the normal loss of water molecules to evaporation. The water that evaporates is the more energetic molecules, so their loss results in net energy loss of the bulk liquid and thus by definition, cools.
so the cup with no creamer (black) will lose heat faster that the cup with creamer (white) because of faster evaporation rate.
The dark liquid attracts more light, as the light material reflects light.
